How Best to Gift a Puzzle Card

You’ve ordered a puzzle card, perhaps it’s for a friend’s birthday or Christmas present. Great, a puzzle card can be a fun way to gift a digital gift like an online subscription, or a non-tangible gift like telling someone you’re going to take them out for dinner. Likewise, it can also be a great option if you haven’t thought of a gift yet or don’t intend to buy one. Depending on your gifting intentions, you might want to think about how you give the puzzle card. Here are our hints and tips for you and your recipient to get the most out of the experience.

Who this article is for:

  • You’ve ordered a puzzle card and it’s on its way

  • You intend to gift it to someone

If this is your first time hearing about a puzzle card, see how a puzzle card works.

1. Unpackage your Puzzle card

  1. Removed your puzzle card from its Australia Post packaging. It should still be inside a plastic cello bag with the instruction sheet visible at the back.

  2. Remove the cello bag (and recycle it with your other soft plastics if in Australia)

  3. Separate the instruction sheet from the rest of the contents (you’ll hold into this).

Choosing a gifting strategy for your Mystery Unfolds puzzle card

2. Choose a strategy based on whether you’re getting them a gift

  1. You won’t be getting them a gift (aside from this amazing puzzle card):

    • Go straight to Step #4.

  2. You won’t have a chance to get a gift before their birthday / Christmas:

    • Play the Mission Impossible theme song in the background - you’re about to pull off a grand deception.

    • You’ll mail the recipient their gift and tell them they’re not going to get their gift until they solve the mystery within - You now have until the time that the card gets to them through the post and they’ve solved it to think of and purchase a gift
      OR

    • You’ll give the recipient their gift directly and tell them they’re not to open it until you’ve left

      • On the card/envelope you’re going to write that they won’t get their gift until they solve the mystery within.

      • There is a slight chance that they’ll ignore you and try and solve it anyway. If this is the case

  3. You have brought them an intangible gift (e.g. Netflix subscription, direct deposit to their bank account, a digital gift voucher, a voucher for a puzzle-centric experience.):

    • You’ll tell the recipient they’re not going to get their gift until they solve the mystery within.
      OR

    • You’ll give the recipient the gift regardless of whether they solve the puzzle. Go to Step #4.

  4. You have bought them a physical gift (e.g. a new bike, a pony, or a physical gift voucher):

    • You’ll tell the recipient that you’ve hidden their gift and you won’t tell them where it is until they solve the mystery within.
      OR

    • You’ll give the recipient their gift but tell them they can’t open it until they solve the mystery within.
      OR

    • You’ll give the recipient the gift regardless of whether they solve the puzzle. Go to Step #4.

Prepare your Mystery Unfolds puzzle card

3. Prepare your puzzle card

  1. OPTIONAL: Write a personal message to your recipient. You can write this on the back of the card or, if you’re not mailing the card, you can also write this on the envelope. If you’re going to withhold a gift until they’ve solved the puzzle, this is a good place to mention it.

  2. Put all the inserts inside the card (except for the instructional sheet you removed earlier).

  3. Place the card (and its inserts) into the envelope and seal it.

4. Gift the card

  1. Mail it to your recipient:

    1. Wait until they get in touch with the solution.

    2. To check the solution yourself, follow the URL on the instructional text, or asks the recipient to do it for you (they have the same URL on the back of the puzzle card in case they get stuck).

    3. Once you’ve confirmed they have the correct solution, give them their gift. Depending on the strategy you suggested in #2, email them or tell

      OR

  2. Give it to your recipient in person:

    1. OPTIONAL: If they start solving the card in your presence, you can follow the link on the instruction sheet that you separated out in step #1.3. Follow along with their progress and give them instructions as needed.

    2. Once solved, give them their gift.

5. Gifted. Well done. Hope you both enjoy. :)
